Residential Services
Melmark New England Residential Services offers a very
high standard of residential care and supervised supportive services, which
promote residential stability for children and adolescents. Program services
are oriented to each student and are designed to meet the needs of the student.
Students are recognized as persons with basic human needs, and as citizens of a
community with all the rights, privileges, responsibilities and opportunities.
The program currently has five homes in Saugus, Peabody
(2), Tewksbury and in Methuen.
Our home in Saugus houses seven of Melmark New England's
younger students. The children work on self-care, leisure time, daily living,
and community IEP goals. All students enjoy the play yard, the recreational
room, and community recreational and leisure opportunities. The Saugus program
has successfully transitioned one out-of-state student to a program closer to
home and warmly welcomed another student this year.
Our house in Tewksbury is a home for five teenagers and
young adults. A challenging focus of this program is to teach students daily
living and work related skills in efforts to transition them to adult living
with the necessary skills. This dynamic group of students is working together
to play games, cook dinner, clean house, build friendships, and participate in
volunteer or paid work within the Tewksbury community.
Our first house in Peabody is one of the program’s homes
for teenagers. The seven young students enjoy the summer months swimming in
their backyard pool as well as other community based activities. Developing
social skills and problem-solving strategies to deal with life challenges is a
primary focus at this residence. Students actively work on enhancing their
relationships with their family and friends with coaching from creative staff.
Our second house in Peabody serves 8 preadolescent
youths in this seven bedroom beautifully renovated house. The children work on
self-care, leisure time, daily living, and community IEP goals.
Within each of our residential settings, we have a focus
on preserving a homelike atmosphere for the children. Outings are a regular
occurrence and include activities such as camping, horseback riding, biking,
picnics, hiking, and skating. The homes are supported by 24 hour on-call
nursing support as well as administrative and senior clinical support.
