Education Program
Melmark New England specializes in serving those
students within our clinical profiles who are currently unable to attend public
school.
For some children served, the goal is to return the
child to the public school setting after the benefits of a Melmark New England
education are achieved.
Day services are provided in accordance with
Melmark New England's school calendar which provides for 237 school days over
12 calendar months.
Residential services
are provided within the Melmark New England homes. Students attend class per
the school calendar. Services are provided in the homes on all non-school days.
For children and family who are able, home visits are encouraged on a regular
basis; parent training and support is provided.
Melmark New England seeks to partner with families and
collaborate in the design of services that best meet the family and individual
student needs. The ultimate goal for all children is to develop and/or restore
functioning to the highest level of independence possible. Our services are
designed to be delivered in a community based school and within homes in nearby
towns.
School Based and Consultation Services
On a limited basis, Melmark New England provides program
design assistance to public school personnel and to families. Such support
enables a child to stay at home and to be served in his/her public school.
Consultation support is rendered after residential or day placement to
facilitate a successful transition back to the home and public school.
Funding Options
Melmark New England's rates are set annually by the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office for Administration and Finance,
Operational Services Division. Students may be funded through a variety of
sources. Students may be placed at Melmark New England through their Individual
Education Plan (IEP) team meeting and acceptance by the program. The most
typical funding is directly from the child's local public school. For
residential placements, costs are shared by the Mass. Dept. of Education and in
some cases by other state agencies (e.g. DSS, DMR, DMH).
